Building Confidence

I took my son to the park yesterday and he wanted to go down the slide. He was so excited and also a little afraid because he didn’t know what to do. So I put him on my lap and slid down. He laughed and smiled and clung to me. After practicing a few times, he realized he could go down with just holding my hand. He was still a bit hesitant but he was growing in confidence each time he went down. Eventually my son discovered he could climb up the slide. Even though he was becoming more independent I was always right there ready to catch him and prevent him from getting hurt.

This so reminded me of my relationship with the Lord. I love how when we are stepping out and learning something new, he is holding us close so we feel safe and secure. I love that as we grow in confidence God is still right there holding our hand but letting us laugh and enjoy what we have learned. I love how God is not just passively watching me from afar. He is right here and hovering over me. He is ready to catch me and pull me close if I start to fall.

The Bible has many examples of this. My favorite example is when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. Gods spirit hovered over them in front during the day to protect them from the sun and heat, while hiding them from the enemy, and then turned into a fire around them to bring warmth and protect them at night.

“For throughout all their journeys the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭40:38‬ ‭AMP

God is always setting us up to succeed and if we fail the first time or the fiftieth time, he is there to catch us.

I pray you go and try something new knowing God is with you and protecting you along the way.
